Providing the right housing resources right now, we can ensure Minnesotans rebound from COVID19. Without Federal action, current funds expire this month. We need lawmakers to invest in housing stability and our shelter systems to ensure Minnesotans can pay their housing expenses and have a safe place to stay during our coldest months.

Minnesota Housing continues to receive close to $700,000 in requests per day and our shelters are full. Without increased funds, some Minnesotans’ unemployment insurance will not even cover their rent. New investments are critical to preventing thousands of evictions and foreclosures. $50M in housing assistance and $10 million in Emergency Services Program (ESP) will support households impacted by COVID-19 and its economic impacts.

It only takes a minute; please call and email Governor Walz NOW to tell him we need $50M in housing assistance and $10M in the Emergency Services Program.

Script for your calls:

  • Hi my name is (your name) and I live in (your county/city). I support investing $50M in housing assistance and $10 million in the Emergency Services Program to keep Minnesotans stably housed and our shelter system fully operating during the start of the new year. We need this investment included in the December Special Session worker and business relief package. Unprecedented daily requests to Minnesota Housing demonstrate the need is enormous. Where we live impacts everything. Without funds to support households in January and February, we face a wave of future evictions and foreclosures that we cannot afford. Providing the right housing resources right now, we can ensure Minnesotans rebound from COVID19. Thank you.

If you have time, please make two additional phone calls with the script above:

  • Speaker Hortman - (651)-296-4280
  • Majority Leader Gazelka - (651)-296-4875
